Refi (appraisal)

I'm considering a refi on my home to build an extra room.  I'm sure an appraisal will be needed.  Does the appraiser walk through your house or anything?  In other words, should I clean out the closets?

Re: Refi (appraisal)

Most refinances for cash out will require a full appraisal, which means the appraiser will inspect the home inside. As far as looking in closets, and the level of "stuff" that may be in there, I would not worry about it too much. Basically they are looking at the square footage of the home and the overall condition of the home.

I remember years ago, before I got into lending, we did a refi on our first home. My wife spent hours touch up painting, cleaning (our house was already very clean...pre-kids). The appraiseer came through and spent maybe 3 minutes inside the home. She was really upset that they did not take note of all her work.
