Refi to add name

Here's my scenario Been making the mortgage payment for the house i live in. House is under in laws name but me n wife have proof from our checking that we've made the last 39 payments. Unfortunately house is abt 10k underwater but its ok with us bcz we love the house so a straight uo sale is out of the question. Ive been told before that if we get our names added to the deed then do a refi we could keep the house just under our names...anyone heard of this before? Any other options since a short/sale is also out of the question.

The only way to change the names of the person on the note is to refinance. It does not matter who is making the payments towards the note, the original note holder will always get credit.

If the home is upside down, you won't be able to refi in almost all cases.
