Yes, the reselling of mortgages is a common practice. Your original lender will then take the money from US Bank and lend it to someone else.
US Bank is a nice, healthy national bank that has less exposure to the subprime market (or so I was told). I have a HELOC through them, and I am perfectly happy with their service. Their online customer service is remarkably responsive.
