Rent receipts requirement

I have a question about submitting rent receipts to a lender. Do lenders typically require receipts that you have paid your rent on time for a specific period of time? If so, how far back do they ask (i.e. how many months or years)? Are cancelled checks sufficient?

Thanks!

Re: Rent receipts requirement

It really depends on the lender and your credit history. If you have a high credit score with no blemishes, they might not even ask for it. If you're pushing for a high DTI and the rent is near what the mortgage payment would be, the cancelled checks show your ability to make that payment.

Cancelled checks are probably sufficient, and they would most likely want 12 months worth.

Re: Rent receipts requirement

Our lender sent a letter to our landlord to verify we pay on time. We do not have cancelled checks because my Husband does work in exchange for part of the rent, sometimes all of it.
