Retirement funds for DP?

Does anyone know if you can use (withdraw) from retirement funds for your DP? Would this hurt you in any way (other than the obvious taxes that you might have to pay)??

Thanks

acceptable source if withdrawn.
if borrowed from retirement, then some lenders will count the payment against you and others will reduce your retirement assets by the amount of the loan..... i have seen lenders do it both ways
