SF Bay Area's housing market has been crazy for a looong time. You should adjust your expectations if going house hunting specially in the peninsula - your money won't go as far as it did in Denver. $1M will get you a little 2/2 on a 1/4 acre in a nice location in a good school district. Peninsula price per sq ft are to $1000+. So I hope you're getting a big bump up in salary or some sort of homebuyer's assistance when you relocate.
