What kind of loan would I need?

I am hoping by the end of this year to build a home and purchase some land.

I have a distant family memeber that wants to sell her land to us, it is twenty acres @ 16000. We want to build a home on it of course, something simple but nice around 80,000. I am not sure what kind of loan we would have to get to be able to buy the land and get funded for the home. Any advice would be great..

I have several things about to drop off my credit and expect a very good increas on my score and I am hoping that we are able to do this in late fall or early winter.

First of all thank you for your service.

I don't believe the VA does land loans but you might go here and look around: http://www.va.gov/

I know that here in Texas the Veterans Land Board helps vets with different types of loans including land loans. You might do a search of your state for that information.
