When is closing?

We haven't made an offer yet but just a question. What determines when you close? Can you request to stretch it out? Sorry if this is a silly question but I'm just curious based on when our lease ends and the fact that there are a couple homes we're eyeing (not short sale or forclosure).

An assumed closing date will be noted on your purchase contract with the seller.  That date may be changed with the written extension of your contract if that becomes necessary.  Your realtor should be able to explain all this to you.
