can I "join" house mortgage later on ?

I came to USA last year and don't have much knowledge about how mortage (for home) works. Can somebody

provide me link to some authoritative site on mortgages ? thanks.

Now, the main query. My wife is buying a house and she is about to close the deal v soon. I am out of country and

asked her to wait for me to come back. But, she has apprehension that she might miss out on the deal as she is already in love with that house. I wanted her to have me also on the mortgage, but since I do not have much of a credit history, she thinks that would be detrimental on the interest rate ? Is it possible for me to "join" the same mortgage later on after a few years when I have a decent credit rating ?

I'm certainly no expert, but I would think the only way to do this would be to refinance, adding you to the loan at the time. You should be able to be on the deed, though, without being on the loan.

OK. So it is possible to be in the deed without being on the loan ? Seems good.

Do I have to be present to sign the deed or she can just put my name ?
