online auto credit approval vs. in-dealer

(Mods - not sure if this is the right forum. Please move if needed)

The lease on my current vehicle runs out early next year. I've leased a few cars but usually by going into the dealership to work on the details. I've wondered though if there is any real advantage and/or disadvantage to first going online (e.g. to chryslerfinancial, fordcredit, etc.) to get a credit approval instead of going directly to the dealership. My FICO scores are all above 720 if that might matter. Thanks!

I would apply at the dealer.. generally the online apps are pre-approval only with an actual official approval still needed from the local F&I manager.
