Re: Looking for bank recommendations

NFCU is the best to their members great cd rates and overall products offered meet our needs. Need military affiliation to join can join if family member has been in military etc.
Lake Michigan Credit Union has a Max checking product that earns 3% on balance up to 15,000. Could be nice to earn interest rate on money sitting in your checking accountSmiley Happy do deposits on mobile app

Thanks to for the responses!  I have gotten over my tirade with BOA - for now.  But I will look for another bank.  Maybe do a slow switch over.  Or keep BOA on a limited basis.  Not sure yet.   But I can solve my main beef with them by just using the cc card for my spending and paying it off.  Nothing for them to mess around with and probably better than using the debit card for everything anyway.

From personal experience, I would say NavyFed has good customer service, but PenFed is better. PenFed seems a bit more personal in their approach, ie.: they can talk to a loan specialist for you while you're on the phone with them, they can tell you exactly why you were denied for a loan, when you recon for a loan/card they're more willing to understand your personal situation.

NavyFed on the other hand doesn't feel like a credit union at all when it comes to customer service, but almost like a large commercial bank, but that may have to do with the size of their organization. I find Navy Fed's other services (other than phone CS) very member friendly, though [CD's, free checks, etc..

Re: Looking for bank recommendations

LillyLilly, I didn't see if anyone asked what part of the country you're in earlier in the thread. If you don't mind sharing, that might get you better recommendations. As an example, Chase, US Bank, and PNC are well represented around me. Citi and BOA would be an awful pain since they don't have any branches in my area. If I moved to another city where I have business interests, I'd have Citi, BOA, USB, Chase, WF, and many regional banks to choose from.

Chase is slightly more convenient to my business, but US Bank is more convenient to my home. I keep a personal checking and savings account at each, a business checking account at each, a personal project checking account at BMO Harris, and a business account at a small local bank. All of them have reasonable policies that work for me, but you need to figure out what works well for you.

Some of the people that work for my smallest business tend to live paycheck to paycheck regardless of their wage. They don't keep an account at Chase because of the potential fees they would incur. If asked, I recommmend USB gold accounts which waive minimum balances with a CC product. I don't know how they structure payments out of the account, but they should be pretty forthcoming if there is a branch near you.

I love online accounts conceptually, and rarely find myself inside an actual brach. I'd not be too worried about using one at this point, but I rarely handle physical cash. If I had to with any frequency, I wouldn't go down that road. I'll have to put my money where my mouth is and get an online only account at some point.

Re: Looking for bank recommendations

You should consider BB&T if they are nearby. From the relevant section of the agreement:

In general, the Bank will post transactions to your account in chronological order. Chronological posting is utilized when the bank can identify both date and time information for the transaction. For each processing day, the Bank will post all credits in low to high dollar amount. Following credits, debits will post in chronological order. As a result, prior day debits and fees will post before current day debits and fees. Items sent by merchants for authorization prior to being submitted for final payment will post according to the date and time of the authorization request. Debits that cannot be posted in chronological order will post in low to high dollar amount after chronological debits are posted, followed by checks in sequential order.

This minimizes risk of overdraft if you're living close to the edge. They also have a number of different overdraft protection, CLOC, and savings to checking transfer options you could consider.

Thank you climbfire.  I was actually considering them myself.  I'll have to check them out!

Re: Looking for bank recommendations

Wanted to give an update to say that I finally opened an account with WF simply b/c they have a branch within walking distance of me.  In addition, they were offering a $200 bonus if you put certain amount of direct deposits, over a certain amount, in your account within 5 months, I believe.  Can't remember the exact details, sorry, but I can meet the requirements that they want for the $200 so it was a good deal.

Thanks for all of your help!
