I just joined NFCU and PenFed because I wanted to apply for a loan for some home improvement for my new house. I wanted to get some data points to see what I would be approved for. Is income a big factor or does credit score count more? Income is $40K and equifax/transunion fico is 680-690. Would really appreciate any input before I pull the trigger. Thanks!
NFCU would give higher limits than PenFed and are more lenient. Check out the NFCU and PenFed forums.
NFCU has been really good to us since we began our rebuild. Two credit cards, a cloc, two personal loans, a car loan and we are now waiting on the appraisal to refinance our house with them dropping our interest rate from 5% to 3.125% with a cash out for home upgrade repairs. The mortgage online app process has been painless and the approval was quick and easy. Our scores are low 700s.
