Use Google Wallet to get around merchants not accepting Amex?

I run into a problem where a lot of the places I shop at won't take Amex.  So can I get the Google Wallet card and have the default payment method set to my Amex to get around this?  Do rewards code properly if I do this?

You can use Google Wallet if the merchant has a NFC enabled terminal. The physical Google Wallet card can only be funded from the Google Wallet balance, not from a credit card. So your plan is a no-go.

That said, if you use your phone to make purchases with it, you should still get rewards. I used it with my CSP a couple of times at fast food places and I got the 2x every time.
