3 Open Collections - What to do first?

Hi,

New to these forums, I have already learned so much!  Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me on my situation.....

Did not take credit seriously, and it is time for me to grow up.  My CR history isnt too lengthy (thankfully) - I do have (1) Good Acct, (3) Collections.

Current Scores: TU522/EQ524 Smiley Sad

I currently have (1) acct. in good standing - a secured Cap One Card.

I also have (3) open collections on my CR.

Total balances of the 3 combined : approx. $4000

Where do I start?

I do not have the whole $4000 to pay today - I do have about half.

Would it be best to pay one debt off at a time as I can?  Or try to offer a percentage of the 3 debts to settle?

Which would be better on my CR?

Thanks!

  1. What is the DOFD on your collections?
  2. What's the SOL in your state?

If they are outside SOL, you can probably negotiate a PFD with collectors for less than the full balance.

DOFD - would this be the "last payment date" on report?  thx!

Re: 3 Open Collections - What to do first?

It would be the date you first became delinquent (30 days) and didn't bring an account up to date.

You can't really find this information on most online credit report trackers.  I always request my annual credit reports ON PAPER to be mailed to me so I can have the most accurate data.  Your "real" reports will list the DOFD and that's how you calculate the SOL in your state.
