A little encouragement for me/others

As a gag, I went back through my PLUS scores from EX as well as the two other scores on MyFico to see how 2010 has treated me as a whole.  Basically, I wanted to see what a graph would look like with my scores, some sites do this.  I was really shocked to realize that my scores had increased as much as they have in the past year, few months.  With the help of great members/moderators on this website as well as some hard persistence, I'm happy to say that as recently as August 11 of this year, my scores were all below 550 and my three scores are all now over 630.  80 points in 3 months may seem impossible to some, may not seem like much to others, but after removing baddies that were just begging to be removed, I saw NOTICABLE increases.  My advice to those starting out or confused or intimidated by this process is DO NOT GIVE UP.  BE PERSISTENT.  KEEP TRYING AFTER YOU GET A NO.  Trust me, it works.

Good luck to everyone throughout the rest of 2010 and going forward into 2011.  Persistence is key!!

Re: A little encouragement for me/others

I totally agree that persistence is the key. I started out five years ago with somewhere around 54-57 baddies inc. multiple 30-60-90-120 lates, and a CO. My scores were in the 500's. Next year in 2011 all but one 90 and the CO are due to fall off, and if I hassle the CRA's and  Cap1 enough, the CO might disappear next year due to wildly reported DOFD's. The remaining 90 is scheduled to fall off 02/12, but who knows, might get an early Christmas present next year.  I had given up on my student loan falling off, did a detailed dispute to TU and EX, and that sucker just went to + status!!  What a Thanksgiving present that was. My point is, don't just sit around and let what happens happen. Be Proactive, monitor your reports regularly, make absolutely sure they are accurate, write GW letters, dispute ANYTHING that you believe is not accurate, and keep yourself out of trouble with your positive accounts. I found that just reading these boards and learning from others on here will motivate you to improve your credit picture. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and 7 or so years isn't forever. Just keep your head in the game and keep reaching for your goals. You Can Do It.

Re: A little encouragement for me/others

Hello I am just reading your post for Capital One, if you don't mind me asking what number did you call.  I have sent numerous GW letters and no response, I only have one 30 day late and have been good on paying my card in full and on time.  I would like to know which number you called and hopefully I can also have some success.  Thanks

Re: A little encouragement for me/others

4sarahg:  Try these:

Cap1: 800-625-7866 (Account Specialist)

Cap1: 800-951-6951 (cust. relations)
Cap1: 800-548-4593 (application department; status)
Cap1: 800-889-9939 or 800-625-7866.(Account Specialist)
Cap1: 877-513-9959 (Account Retention?)
Cap1: 800-258-9319 (Debt Recovery)

Cap1 Secured Platinum: 800-219-7931 (deposit taker, can speak to credit analyst)

I have tried numerous GW letters to Cap1 without success for a PAID charge-off of approx. $800. It is due to fall off early next year. YMMV and good luck!
