First off, thank you for any help or advice. A little background, I had a collections account because of I (unknowingly) defaulted on a Nevada Power energy bill for $200.00. It was sent to Aargon Collection Agency and showed up on my report late 2010.
I have sent a DV letter and they validated the debt. I then sent a pay for delete letter. I just received a phone call from them. The guy told me that there is absolutely zero chance of getting a "pay for delete" letter because of (insert excuse here). He then told me that I WOULD be able to get it deleted from my reports. He said that once I pay it, I will receive a letter stating that the debt is payed in full. He then said that I could take that letter to the credit reporting agencies, ask them to take it off, they would contact the collection agency to make sure it was ok and then it would be removed.
This just sounds fishy to me. I even asked if he could provide me a letter stating that his agency would agree to remove the account from my report if the credit reporting agencies asked them. He said there was no such letter. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to buy a house in 6 months and this is the only negative thing on my report.
If this is the only mark on your reports you can get by with the mortgage having it listed as paid on the reports. Yea CA's will tell you whatever they can to get you to pay. Yeah you pay it then submit an investigation with the CRA's and it will come back as belonging to you with a paid/zero balance. The only time it would get deleted is if the CA doesnt answer the CRA's investigation.
Cpntact the utility and see if thye will accept payment. If so offer to pay in full if they will pull the account from the collection agency. Similiar to a PFD.
What you were told is just the opposite of what you can expect from a CRA.
It is their policy, as stated in their credit reporting manual and incorporated into all of their credit reporting agreements, that prior reporting should not be deleted based on subsequent payment of the debt.
His advice is to ask the CRAs to violate their own stated policy.
I just called the utility company and, unfortunately, they have sold the account to Aargon CA. They said I could pay it but there is no way they could pull it back since it was sold to the CA.
It looks like I may have to take this route. I am looking to buy a house within the next six months or so, and it looks like I have to have it paid in full before I can get a decent loan. This is the only bad mark on my credit, so I hope everything works out in the end. Man, this is such a hassle. Ahh how young and foolish I was 5 years ago lol.
If you could still pay the OC, then it wasn't sold to the CA, it was assigned.
True story...I had an account that was forwarded to Aargon. Even though I was very reluctant to make the call, I asked the female rep if there was a way to come to a "mutual agreement" where both parties were satisfied. She said, "Are you asking looking to have this deleted from your report?" I said yes, she said ok.
I made my payment over the phone and requested a fax confirming payment and deletion...I rec'd it during the phone call. This was on 12-04-12.
It can be done. I do believe that it is the luck of the draw -- you have to talk to the right person on the right day.
Best of luck to you!
