Advice for Removing Inquiries from Credit Reports

Hello:

I have a few inquiries on my credit reports that I am not really sure what they are from.

Would I dispute this directly with the company or with the credit reporting agency?

Would it be a gw letter or something else?

Even if the inquiry looks valid, is it worth trying to get removed?

I believe the discussion of removal of accurate information from reports is considered unethical on these boards.

+1

You may be able to contact whoever has placed an Inq on your CR and ask for removal.  The disputing of correct or valid information on your CR is against the TOS of myFICO, but in addition to that, it may cause other problems to arise.

l would do my research on the information, see what the Inqs are for and whether or not they are valid.  Remember, Inqs aren't factored in greatly to your scores.  They only affect your score for 1 year and are listed for 2 years.

Re: Advice for Removing Inquiries from Credit Reports

The only way you are gong to get a inquiry off the report is if it is on there because of fraud. Otherwise a CRA will not remove them. And none will do it without a police report.

Re: Advice for Removing Inquiries from Credit Reports

Well if these companies would spell out their name on the reports, maybe I would have a better idea who these are instead of the stupid acronyms they use.

If I apply for credit with one company and it comes back with 4 different acronyms on the same day, I have a big problem with that, even if it accounts for one pull.

Hopefully you aren't accusing....

Re: Advice for Removing Inquiries from Credit Reports

Not necessarily so with the police report being the only way.  Sometimes you can just contact them and ask them to remove the Inq.  It's quite simple, you can just ask, all they can do is say yes or no.

If you are unsure of who the Inqs are from, you can contact the CRAs and ask them for more information.  If they are valid, then so be it.  But I do agree with you that if they aren't supposed to be on there, weren't permissable pulls per se, then they should be removed.

Not fraud on your part.  Someone else trying to get credit in your name.
