I disputed two items yesterday that were too old to be on my report. Received an e-mail that my Equifax score dropped 16 points because the accounts updated due to the dispute being added. Hopefully they get deleted and it will go away. It's just frustrating to me that an account can't be disputed/reviewed without an automatic update. How about "update" it when you get the results??
You'll be fine once the accounts are removed. Good Luck as you go forward
Thank you!
That's the downside to disputing older items. If they update and are not removed, points drop off.

This happened to me once when I disputed a TL. It appears that when you dispute an item, many portions of the TL are masked and not accounted for in your FICO score while the dispute is in progress. I'm guessing my positive payment history was masked during the dispute period causing my FICO score to drop but it went right back up as soon as the dispute was closed. Best of luck!
I disputed two accounts with Experian because they were past the scheduled drop off date. Experian removed one and moved the drop off date on the other, but Equifax, who I did not dispute anything with, updated both the accounts, even though none of the information changed, and now my Equifax is 40 points lower than the others. It used to be my middle score. So this whole updating thing is hard to figure.
