I got another voicemail today. The phone she was calling from was cutting out but she claims that she is calling on behalf of Dallas County (my county) about an execution petition, she gave a case number and said something about 3 charges, possible warrant for a petition order, she says its in my best interest to contact her immediately if I want to divert all actions from moving forward, she mentions an investigator, she says if they dont hear from me they will go ahead and process in regards to these allegations with the custody order (i'm not in a custody battle so I dont know what this means). I dont know if this is real or more voicemails like the CPM/CMP crap that I was getting before. #1) She called from a California number and #2) I immediately went to the dallas county and district courts information webpage and looked up the case number they gave and there was nothing found. I wonder if this is a debt collector trying to scare me again. Should I call the number back? If I do need to call back, what should I say or not say?
We've been having those calls here in CA and they are a scam... Google the phone number and you will see tons of complaints... they have been trying to scare people to pay bogus IRS back taxes, judgements etc and then try to scare you into making immediate payments via Western Union or some other source that is instant in order to prevent prosecution and almost always they have very heavy middle easter accents.
When you start asking them questions and ask for a # to reach them the will always hang up on you!

Call the number and immediately ask for a physical address to send your summons for the suit you're preparing for FDCPA violations made in the voicemail call. Watch how fast the line goes dead....

Thats the website I clicked on after googling the number, where I found the guy that got a message from the same woman.
These scams come and go. Some of the time it is an actual collection company that just doesn't follow the law. Most of the time it's just someone trying to scare you out of your money.
Best to not answer such calls; do not call back. It's a scam. Caller ID can't be relied upon; easily forged. If they have filed a real case, you'll get an official court summons. What constitutes an official court summons is a topic in and of itself, but is something one can physically view and verify at their leisure verses a threatening call in real-time.
Personally, I screen my calls; have two separate phone numbers - one the corps get and another for friends and family. In the unlikely event I answer an unsolicited business / debt collection / survey (99% scams, but is a way around the Do Not Call law) / charities (telemarketing firms on their behalf often takes a significant cut) call , I hangup promptly with no comment, or at most, "Take me off your list".
