Hello,
Newbie poster here. I have a checkered credit past and of course I am having to learn the heard way. I have several marks including a few charge offs, the majority of which have been paid off, only two that aren't and none under four years. I have consistently heard that CO's that are more than 4 yrs old either have very little to no effect (answers have varied) on the score. I don't know what to believe. I do have very bad late payments on several student loan accounts on which the last was in 2011, but now is current. I have a First Premier that has a 120 day late a year ago that I am trying to get forgiven since I have had perfect payment since then. Besides this I have a paid judgment, a 30-day and a collection I am trying to dispute.
I know it ain't pretty, and I wish I knew as much about credit before as I do now, but for now I am trying to keep a positive attitude.
EQ stands at 579 currently but TU is at 531. My overall utilization is good and under 30%. I have a mix of a couple of installments, 6-8 revolving credit lines and one auto loan.
Could anyone advise me, judging from the info provided (which is limitied, I know, but take your best shot) what could be weighing my score down most and how I can approach rebuilding after all these mistakes?
