Are creditors required to respond to a CFPB complaint? I filed a complaint against First Premier regarding innacurate reporting and they have not responded.
Under the complaint status on the CFPB site is just says "company response past due"
Are they any other steps I can take in regards to the CFPB complaint
If I recall, the CFPB gives the creditor 14 days to respond initially. In my case I had a creditor that was given 2 additional 14 day extensions. I would call the CFPB to see if they have been in contact with the creditor.
Yes they are required to respond but the CFPB may give them addl time as previously stated, the periods are 14 days as stated. If the creditor completely blows them off it could result in a big fine to the creditor.
