Aspire Visa - Direct dispute or CRA dispute?

I had an Aspire Visa that was charged off in 2008. It was sent to Midland Funding for collection. I paid Midland in full (shows "paid collection" on my CR).  Aspire is still showing a balance of $1438. Should I contact Aspire or dispute with TU & EQ? (it is not listed on EX).  Which will be most beneficial and/or expedient? It's due to fall off in 2015, but I'd love to see it gone asap.

TIA for any input!

Re: Aspire Visa - Direct dispute or CRA dispute?

I would recommend sending a direct dispute, as it is the creditor who failed to meet their requirment to promptly update their reporting to reflect its current accuracy, as required under FCRA 623(a)(2).

That cuts the CRA middle-man out of the process, and requires the determination come directly to you.

I'm not sure what relevance correction of the current balance would have to deletion of the reported charge-off.

They simply need to correct the current balance.
