I'm trying to remove a first time 30 day late that just ended up on my Experian credit report. It's for a credit card account for BBVA and it was an honest mistake on my part and I just made the payment today for the account. Other than that, my credit report has been clean for the past 2 and a half years and I need some advice on writing a goodwill letter that would be convincing enough for the company to remove the late from my credit report possibly. I have not had any negative history with them besides that.

You will need to talk to them first next week. Just be honest. Might want to consider cutting back a bit on cards, since that is a BIG mistake. Calling will be quicker than writing, because you are aware of possible AA after that shows.

I am planning to downsize soon and put this one on autopay. Cards have been much less of a focus for me and i'm currently on the phone with a CS rep right now trying to get it off.
Update: CS rep was able to reverse the $35 late fee, but claimed that since the payment was late they wouldn't remove it off my report. I am going to write my goodwill letter to BBVA anyway and pursue further action on this.
Do you have a sample of the letter you wrote for this instance? I have the same type of situation but with the electric company. I moved out and thought I had paid all that I owed. Found out when I saw the "ding" on my credit report that I was wrong. So I promptly paid it and they updated it to paid (dropped my scores by an additional 13 points!!!) but it's the only derog on my credit reports and I'm hoping if I plead my case, they'll remove it. I just need help in constructing the letter. I am looking at purchasing a house early next year and this collection account has dropped my scores 30-50 points!!! I need to get it fixed asap.
thank so much!
