My husband declared bankruptcy in 2003.
After that was over he was evicted from an apartment after being in the hospital and losing his job, so now he has an eviction AND a $2000 bill in collections. He tried to set a payment plan but they wanted all or nothing (this has already come back to bite us!)
And in 2008 he had a voluntary repo.... he was not in a good place financially and could not keep paying on a car- it was rent or car so he called them and told them to come get it. He again tried to set a payment plan and they were vicious saying it was all or nothing.
^ There is a twist. He purchased a car right after we met last year! Shocking, huh? They knew of the repo and bankruptcy and got him into a car ($423 a month at 21% interest!) and we were told he could refinance in 1 year. We went back last week and they ran his credit (it dropped 20 points) and said he has a repo last month?! We explained the situation again and looked into it- the finance company never sent J a bill or collections thing, nothing! They JUST put it in collections last month?!?!?! Apparently their 7 year mark was coming and they decided to screw him to the max! (HOW is this legal?! I don't have a clue!)
Anyways...
He has those 2 BIG debts in collections and both situations have come back to bite us. Plus he has a ton of medical bills in collections as well.
His report looks like (in general) from creditkarma:
8 open accounts in collections for $3,073
He has sometime from the repo which was opened in April 08 and updated June 30th, 2013 for $6,635?!
What do we need to do? File Bankruptcy? Is there a way to set up some kind of payment plan with these people (at least the medical bills which there are 6 of!)
We NEED his credit score up- it is 548!
