Book Club Collection?

So I finally pulled my TU FICO which is in the 530's as opposed to my EQ being in the 570's because more things are reporting on TU. I remember disputing this via the website and them replying a month or so later saying that the debt was valid.

Collection on debt to: 01 Literary Guild Select Book Clu

The collection agency "Rjm Acq Llc" was hired to collect a debt of $81 originally owed to "01 Literary Guild Select Book Clu" on account number "XXXXXX4200".

I legitmately do not know what this debt is about or where it came from. Moreso, there's no way even if we did sign up for this that I used my social...so are they just reporting by name? I assume PFD would be the route to go on this?

Re: Book Club Collection?

Yes, a PFD would probably be the way to go.  My wife belongs that Literary Guild, I have no idea why.  It reminds me of the old Columbia House records.  They send you crap and if you don't turn it down, you pay for it.

Re: Book Club Collection?

Question, when sending a PFD, since I have never done it, I will be starting in a few months, is it a good practice to send the amount you are attempting to PFD for via check and stating in the letter that cashing the check is acceptance of the terms and deletion? or can they just cash the check and screw me?

I liken it to showing someone $1500 cash when they want $2000 for something...money talks but it may not apply here. Thanks!

Re: Book Club Collection?

I disagree.  If you truly have no knowledge of it, send a DV letter first.

I had an almost identical thing on my CR a long time ago.  It was the first thing I fought because I didn't have a clue what it was.  I sent them a DV letter and they immediately removed it and sent me a letter "for my records".

Re: Book Club Collection?

So your advice is to DV the book club as they are reporting the collection?

Re: Book Club Collection?

It is actually in the hands of RJM ACQ according to the report.

Re: Book Club Collection?

Ok..   You aren't aware of having the account?   Then of course a DV would be appropriate.   The part about sending the check with a PFD for endorsement isn't a good idea.  When doing a PFD just send a letter requesting the PFD and ask for their acceptance in writing.  If they agree, then pay.

Re: Book Club Collection?

So....lol....I just called the number listed on RJM's website and spoke to a lady named Alicia about the $80 something dollar debt. She explained the names of the books that were ordered and I said ma'am...I have no recollection of this at all, and it's from 2007. She said "Did you order the books?" I said "Not to my knowledge at all" and she said "Ok, we will close the account and delete the collection from your credit reports."........wow. Too easy. I'm not sure this will have some "huge" effect on my credit score, but awesome start to getting some things removed!
