CA Comeback Please Help

I just got back from vacation feeling good, I answer the phone guess who Collection Agency.  A few months back before i discovered this site I settle in full on a CA, OC was Direct TV.  I received a fax from the CA saying that the balance would be settle in full for lump sum payment of 343.00.  After the payment it showed on the CR a remaining balance of 200 something dollars. I immediately call the collection agency the remaining balance was then zero and the account fall off my CR.

Now today some collector name Allied Interest claims they are collecting on behalf on Direct Tv and I owe them the remaing balance of 200 something dollars.  They demand i show proof or they will report to the CRA.  I know i lost the documentation because it was so long ago. What do I do?

Re: CA Comeback Please Help

There are some that have used fax to communicate with CAs but IMO this is bad news!

You want everything in writting......there is nothing that shows that a court will accept a fax as a paper trail!

It is up to the CA to prove that you owe anything and that it is you that owe.

Send them a DV  CMRRR       do not give any info!!

Do not talk to them at all!  and do not accept a fax from them!

the new collection agency is using my old address,  I immediately stop the conversation, how do i DV them when they have not sent a official document stating that i owe them anything.  What is DV CMRRR?  Should i try to talk the OC, I had a simiarlier situation with Capital One.

Re: CA Comeback Please Help

DV- debt validation
CMRRR- Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested

If they contacted you via phone, they have only 5(i think) days to mail you a written letter.

Wait for it.

ETA: Do you remember what CA you settled with? Do you have copies of your report from when they were reporting?

What is DOFD on this debt?

Re: CA Comeback Please Help

You can wait and see if they send a dunning letter or until they report  and then send a DV or do it now.

The DV letter also tells them no phone calls.
