So I looked up Portfolio Recovery in my home state of New Mexico. The NM Regulation & Licensing Department shows their license as inactive, having expired in 2004. Is this something that I can use to my advantage in my dispute process? Or- is it just useless information?
I don't see that coming into play in a dispute, maybe if they were threatening to sue you it would make a difference.
Ditto...because a licensing issue is a state matter. Reporting is a federal matter. You could put pressure via your state's AG to compel them to go away though.
I would think they can still report but I don't think they could pursue collecting from you by either calling or writing letters...
