If I sent a DV to a CA, are they allowed to increase the balance before validating the debt? They signed for the DV on 5/21 and increased the balance $2 on 5/30 and another $2 on 6/9 and I haven't received anything from them regarding my DV.
Aren't they required to stop trying to collect after DV? If that's the case, how are they able to raise the balance after a DV?

Only if the DV was timely in response to a dunning notification, or if there was no dunning, is the cease bar in effect. If they sent you a dunning notification and you didn't respond previously, or this response wasn't considered timely, there is nothing to keep them from continuing to collect and not respond to your DV.

They've sent letters before, so I guess that means this wasn't timely. I just thought they had to stop collection efforts until they validated it if you sent a DV. Thanks for the response. The DOLA was for the cap one that caused it was 9/2006, so it's really old.

Oh I completely know where yer coming from, I thought that a DV was universal, but if they have already reached out and you ignored those attempts, your DV has no standing, and they probably know that which is why they are being a pain.
Looks like ya got a little over a year to ride out on that account...
