Im splitting this off my other thread so that I can get some input and it doesn't get lost back in the other thread.
Background; I sent CBCS a PFD letter, they misread it and took it as a DV letter and sent me a photocopy of the original last bill on the OC's account. I sent them a second, differently worded, PFD letter and they replied with the following (which I don't understand);
Client Name: COLUMBIA GAS - OHIO
Client Account #: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Our Account#: xxxxxxxxxxxx
Account Balance: $36.43

This communication is from a debt collector and is an attempt to collect a debt.
Any information obtained will be used for that purpose.
Where do I go from here? Tell them I was tryng to PFD and not DV and ask for another PFD?
I would contact the gas company, to see if they still own the debt.
If they do, ask if they will accept payment and call back the debt from the CA.
I would get it in writing before paying.
PFD letters are private communications between the consumer and the credtior/debt collector, and have no requirement to even respond.
So all you should really do is to send it again, making it very clear, in the opening paragraph, that your letter is not a dispute under any provision of the FCRA Letters are usually handled in initial processing by clerks who dont understand the process, and you are probably just the innocent victem of clerical stupidity.
BTW, the terminology "DV" is usually used to refer to a debt validation letter sent to a debt collector, so it clearly was not a DV letter as tht term is conventionally used. You should refrain from using that terminology when corresponding with an OC.
Thanks! I'll give that a shot!
Any luck with this? I also have a collection with CBCS. I sent a PFD and they DV'ed.
Just wondering if you had any luck after resending.
Thanks!
