Im at the point where I'd like to graduate to an unsecured card. I've gotten most of my collections removed but I have one that wont budge. I know that paying it won't improve my score, but will it improve my chances of being approved for an unsecured card? Or do they only look at score? Its a low amount and falls off in 2 years.
It's really hard to say because it will vary by creditor as to what they look at. Generally speaking though since it is very old I would think that you might have success.
How long has your secured card been open and who is the creditor ?
Capital One approved me for an unsecured CC with a $500 limit and I still have collections on my reports.
From personal experience, if you have just one charge off with a balance, you will feel GREAT if you just pay it in full and be done. you can always send goodwill letters after the fact. If it's never removed, you should be satisfied enough knowing that you have ZERO outstanding debts :-)
