So you can have 2 TL's both showing a balance for the same account? I thought only 1 was allowed to show a balance?
A collection is not a trade line with the consumer. It is the reporting of collection activity by a debt collector.
It is an additional derog that can occur on a delinquent debt.
An original creditor reports the current debt balance.
A debt collector reports the balance they are authorized to attempt to collect. That may or may not also reflect that they own the debt.
Reporting by the OC of the debt balance and by the debt collector of the collection balance is not double reporting of the same thing.
It is common and acceptable reporting.
