Nelnet is the debt collector?
Is the issue that the debt collector is reporting a 90-late, which occured under the OC account, not with the debt collector?
If so, the date opened shown under a reported collection, while using the same title of "Opened" as is used under an OC account, does not relate to the OC account
Date Opened for an OC account is, obviously, the date your account became active.
Date Opened for a collection designates the date they were provided collection authority, either by assignment from the OC, or purchase of the debt.
As for lates showing under a collection account, debt collectors can report the level of delinquency reached on the OC account.
It does not necessarily mean they are reporting a delinquency that ocured with them, as you have no account agreement with a debt collector, and thus they cannot set a billing due date upon which to base a new delinquency with them.
The issue for lates reported by a debt collector thus depends upon whether it is simply a reference to lates that occured under the OC account, which is proper, or whether they are actually reporting a new delinquency that occured with them, which is improper.
