Capital One GW?

I sent an email to Capital One yesterday to see if they would be able to goodwill the 1 single payment I was late in over 2 years.  This was the response I got.  Does this seem like they're actually working on something or is this just a blow off?

I do not wish to have you provide me information for my credit score I
was requesting that you provide me a goodwill adjustment for the years
of on time payments I have made for this account. I do understand its
my own fault and working with your company has been great but I am
trying to repair my credit and this would be a huge help.

Account ending in: _____

The purpose of my correspondence is to see if you would be willing to
make a goodwill adjustment on the reporting of this account to the three
credit agencies. During the time period this account was established I
had was very happy with the service, I was however not the ideal
customer and made mistakes with my handling of the account. I take full
responsibility. I became aware of the unpaid balance when I accessed my
online account to make the payment only to find it had not been made for
the previous month. I know that payment was my responsibility and I am
not attempting to justify this breach of my user agreement, I was
however hoping you might review the circumstances under which this non
payment occurred and consider removing the negative trade line
associated with this account from my three credit reports. As soon as I
became aware of the balance I paid the past due amount in full along
with the payment I was originally intending to make. I provide this not
to justify why the account was unpaid but rather to show that this is
not a good indicator of my actual credit worthiness this is the only
payment I have been late on in over two years. I hope that you are
willing to work with me on erasing this mark from my credit reports. I
would like to stress that the information currently being reported IS
accurate I am not disputing anything with Capital One. I am simply
asking for a courtesy gesture of goodwill in having the credit bureaus
remove this account from my report. I do recognize that this request is
unique and that it may not be your normal policy. Please consider that
the Fair Credit Reporting Act does not demand that all accounts be
reported, only that any account that is reported be reported accurately.
Therefore a company does have legal discretion and permission to remove
any account it chooses. I am hoping you will be able to help. Your kind
consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Capital One GW?

how did you submit your GW request?

was it thru their message center? or did you sent it to an specific person, or their generic customer service e-mail?

sounds like they took your GW request as a dispute to the late(s) on your account and they're going to investigate the accuracy of it. Smiley Indifferent

Re: Capital One GW?

I submitted it through the online email system linked to my credit card account.  Seemed a little too generic too me.  I also emailed someone I got a personal email for, no response yet, and I tried an online chat that people seemed to have success with.  They told me since my account is "restricted" I don't have the option of their normal channels they use, I have to contact a phone number for an account specialist.  I'm going to try them tomorrow but at this point I'm not gonna hold my breath Smiley Sad

Re: Capital One GW?

I got the same response.  A week or two later I got a letter saying they were unable to help me with my request of removing the single late payment I've had in six years. Keep pushing!

Re: Capital One GW?

If all else fails you might just want to skip customer service and go straight to the CEO. Just an example, a few days ago I emailed the CEO of Chase in an effort to get some lates removed from my CC account, the following morning I got a call from the executive office letting me know that they could remove the lates because of my situation at the time (deployment to Afghanistan). Of course everyone's situation is different but I'm sure if you are genuine with your explanation they will work with you. The last thing you want to do is use one of those generic goodwill letters you find on a Google search as they see millions of these letters a week. Keep on pressing and go ahead an shoot Rich Fairbank an email.
