Capital One said no to GW

I emailed the CEO of Capital One with a GW letter and get the following letter in the mail today:

"Thank you for being a loyal customer, blah blah.

Regrettable, pursuant to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, we are required to report accurate information regarding your account to the credit reporting agencies for a period of up to 7 years from the date of last activity. Our records indicate we are accuratley reporting your account to the credit reporting agencies; therefore, we are unable to honor your request to alter this information."

So am I out of luck? is there anything else I can do?

I received the same canned response from them. They also stated they would not respond to any more requests. I feel like I have hit a road block, but its not in my nature to give up so I am going to keep at it!

Collection Accounts: A collection account remains for 7 years from the initial missed payment that led to the collection. So the CEO doesn't know the law?

Same thing happened to me. You might want to try and call one of the Retention Specialists and speak to someone. Might get someone in a particularly generous mood that day. I for one just don't take rejection well so I haven't gone that route.

Are you GW'ing a late payment or a CO?

Re: Capital One said no to GW

I'm trying to GW a 30 day late. I have perfect history on that card besides that one 30 day late.

I'm sorry to hear that Viper, what a bummer, the only other thing I can think of is to call back the Exe Office number you used, and either try speaking with a different rep or get the address to the Exe Office, and send them one GW letter a month until they either tell you to stop sending letters or if they just stop responding to you.

I'm no expert by any means, maybe a more experienced Member than myself will chime in and give you better advice.

If you re-read what the Exec said, he said "last activity", which usually means last payment.

Re: Capital One said no to GW

I had one removed this month. I think sometimes keeping things simple like using the address on the cr, regular mail, and a straight up request without a long, detailed letter may go further than I thought. I used a credit repair agency, but that only had the info I gave them...and their letter sucked as far as content and grammar went. But they were successful and I wasn't. So morale of the story- o back to keeping it simple, don't give up!
