Hi all,
I just gave capital one a call to try to get them to delete a charged off CC from over 6 years ago. No luck. We did notice together though, that the credit bureaus are reporting the item incorrectly. The status is showing as "Paid, Closed." instead of "Paid in Full". They were offering to send this updated information to the CB's, but I told them to hold off.
Is there any way I can use this incorrect information to have this removed from my credit report? BBB? Anything?
Thank you!
Edit:
Also, on this charged off account, they're reporting 2 30 day lates, 2 60 day lates, and 46 90 day lates. Is that even possible? Would it benefit me to try to get these lates removed?
I just tried this a few weeks back. Same issue as you + inconsistent late reporting across all 3 CRAs (1 reported 0 lates, one 3 and TU 19!).
Contacted C1 EO via Facebook who were EXTREMELY professional and thorough, really a pleasure to deal with. They verified the issue but stated that the CRAs sometimes report small information differently. Took a week for them to investigate and a few faxes back and forth. Unfortunately they stated I'd have to go through the CRA and dispute it.
I submitted a complaint via the CFPB to work with TU on the huge discrepency of lates and the different notation in the accounts. TU updated the notes to be in line with the other 2 but did nothing on the lates. I droped 2-3 points since the card had been closed for 4 years and then had an update on TU so in the end, probably was not worth my time.
If this is what you want, I'd go through the CFPB. I had a response within 2 weeks which, in my experience, was way faster than when I've disputed directly with the reporting agency which seemed to be 30+ days.
Good luck!
Seems like a waste time. I think I just need to give up on these two charge offs (BOA and Capital One from 2008) and wait for them to fall off. Was really hoping to get them off before I applied for a mortgage in October. Now if I could just get Asset Acceptance to budge since they're PIF already in regards to the BOA debt...!
If that Cap-1 has not been updating monthly do not do the update, when the DOLA comes current it would drop your score, if it is reporting monthly it doesn;t matter if you go ahead with the update. The payment history sounds fishy to me, typically its 30 60 90 120 120 120 CO. Up to you if you want to challenge the way its reporting.
yeah, I might just leave this one. I was just wondering if them reporting it wrong could lead to a removal. Looks like I'll just have to wait till 2015.

They sounded willing to correct the reporting, once they learned it was inaccurate. I don't see how that's an FCRA violation. and I don't see a way to clear this on a "technicality"
Did you contact the frontline CSRs or the EO?
Sorry, what's an EO?

Executive Office.
Thanks Shogun.
Yes, I talked with the Capital One EO who was unwilling to help me out. They were willing to mail me a letter saying it was PIF, which I might take them up on since I will be applying for a mortgage later this year.
Do you happen to have any other open CC accounts with Capital One? or a bank account with Capital One? I've got 2 charge off's with cap one, that I'm getting ready to pay off, and I've got another sec CC with them, I'm hoping they'll do something nice for a current customer.
