I know I have asked a similar question before, but I want to through this idea out to the forum for thoughts on success rate.
I have an old CO from PenFed for just over $15,000 (credit card). The debt is well past SOL, and is set to drop off my report in just over 2 years. Of course I want to get it off sooner, but I definitely do not have even close to that amount to pay (nor will I).
The debt has been picked up by a collection agency that as far as I can tell is owned by PenFed. I assume it is their internal collections, or at least an offshoot of their parent company.
My idea is to write PenFed (original creditor) and offer them $5000 for the settlement of the debt. They must pull back the debt and remove it from all credit reporting agencies.
What do you think their response will be? I have not heard of many people trying to settle with PenFed, but I assume they would prefer some instead of none.
I appreciate any thoughts.
Thank you.
Sounds good.
I can't even guess what they may say. My take on it is they would be glad to get any money at all.
