Charge Off

I was trying to go back to school. The school offered an remittance special. Since I still owed the school 3500 for previous classes, I accepted. I paid the 30% offered.  However, now it's showing on my credit as a charge off of 2500.  Is there anything I could do to change this?

Was it your understanding that by paying 30% of the debt, you settled the account and there should be a $0 balance on this account? Did you have an agreement in writing?

No I never received anything in writing, everything was done over the phone and internet.  I do have copies of my payment, but that is all.
