Collection Agency Sent Debt Back to AT&T. What Now?

Sorry, if this was asked before. I did research, but I still didn't find a clear and concise answer. A collection agency sent me a letter saying they would no longer report to the bureaus, and that they were returning my account to AT&T. Wouldn't now be a great time to get in contact with AT&T to completely pay off the debt, so that it won't appear on my report? I've heard stories that AT&T won't delete, but in this situation if I paid it before that assigned it to a new collection agency would I be ok? Should I contact them in writing? By phone? Thank you for your time.

Call AT&T immediately. Confirm they have the debt now and pay it quickly before it's sold again.
