With a DOFD of 9/2006 it should fall off between 9/2013 and 3/2014.  The legal requirement is "seven years plus 180 days from DOFD", but CRAs often delete at or just after 7 years.

Have your BF look into joining a CU, they are have the best interest rates on car loans.
