Long story short AT&T sent my uverse cancelation fee to collections. I was not aware of this fee until I opened up a new line to my wireless plan. I had to pay them before I can get a new line. And so I did. About 2 weeks after a collections agent called me claiming that I have a $150 debt with AT&T. I told them I paid but they said as long as they have me in there systems they have to collect. Not before long the collection showed on my credit report and shot me down about 40 points. So I freaked out. Called back and ask how can I get it removed(even though I paid AT&T) they said I needed to pay at least $75 to get rid of the collection from my credit report. My question is, can they remove it? Doesn't it stay there for 7 years.

They can remove it but ask for it in writing , CA say and don't do, but if you take it in writing for sure it will be deleted

Supposedly it was paid about 2 weeks after it went into collections. But I didn't receive any calls until I paid for it. Directly with AT&T.
If you paid AT&T directly, then give them (AT&T) some time to update their info to the Collection agency. You can call to get it in writing or write a GW letter to have it removed from the Collection Agency. Keep us updated...
What's a GW letter?
GW = Good Will letter
That's the fishy part. I paid it in January 2, I started getting calls about a week after I paid. They claimed they've had the collection since December of 2012.
