Collection

My husband has a collection on his report from Aaron's Rents. I spoke with them today about paying, but was told they no longer own the account and will not recall. The problem is they are still reporting this account with a balance. Can or should we dispute it? The collection agency they sold it to, in March, has never contacted us and it is not on our report, so I will pay it to keep it off. Thanks for the help.

Re: Collection

If the OC has sold the debt, they are obligated to promptly update their credit reporting to show $0 balance.

You can give them an informal call to remind them of their obligation to update the debt balance, or you can file a formal dispute.

It might be an excellent time to contact the new owner and offer to pay in exchange for their agreement not to report thier collection on the debt.

You can send them a DV, but they could reply and then simultaneously report.

I assume that you dont dispute the debt?
