Re: Confused on how to proceed

OMG!  Qwest is coming through!!  The Rep who we emailed CREDITED OUR ACCOUNT for the full amount due and apologized for the difficulty we had in canceling our account!!  She said she emailed their collections specialist to see if they could get a request to remove the record from our credit.  She said she could let us know what to expect on Monday.  However, doesn't this mean that, if Qwest has adjusted our account to reflect we don't owe anything, Allied Interstate cannot report that we owe them anything, and have to remove the collection?

That would be my understanding. How can they collect on something that is not owed? But you need to keep a close eye on your reports to make sure it all goes as promised.

Re: Confused on how to proceed

Do original creditors like in this case "quest", negotiate deals with their customers, once the account has been assigned to collections?

Thanks!

Re: Confused on how to proceed

Hey Andy, this is off this topic, but on one which you posted to a while back. You appear to be using creditXpert what-if simulator, do you know of any resources for using this product that can guide a person on possibilities? I have used a little an learned a bit, but can be expensive. We utilize the product through Avantis, but they provide very little in the way of documentation or guidance and their support people seem to not be that familiar.

I'm just looking for resources.

Thanks!

If the OC has only assigned the account to a CA sometimes they will work with you and accept direct payment to them which cuts the CA right out of the deal. If the account has been sold to the CA the OC is pretty much out of the picture.

You can tell if the account has been assigned or sold by looking at your credit reports. If the OC and CA both show balances then the account has only been assigned; if the OC shows a zero balance the OC has sold the account to the CA.
