I just filed for BK7 and I'm trying to help my girlfriend get back on the track for good credit as well. She lost her job in January 2014 thanks to a merger, and racked up some CC debt while looking for a new job. She has 2 CCs at about 99% untilization, totaling 20k. We're hoping to find a good way to consolidate and reduce the monthly payments (about $450/month) without actually using a debt consolidation company.
We we tried a local CU who rejected based on the debt/credit ratio. Has anyone had luck with a particular company or bank getting a consolidation loan? We are really just looking for a better interest rate so the payments are cheaper. We're at 19.99 on one of the cards, and the intro apr on the other goes away in September.
You are in a tough spot here, only thing I can recommend is try prosper and the lending club.
