Credit Repair Companies??

Has anyone actually used any of those credit repair companies? What was your experience? Was it worth it or should I just do it myself?

Re: Credit Repair Companies??

Do it yourself.

So many people fall for the credit repair scams... don't be one of them.

Re: Credit Repair Companies??

I used this lady's company that was recommended by a friend who used her and I didn't like it. They did nothing for me that I couldn't do myself. All they accomplished was deleting some old personal info. It wasn't until I got a secured card that my score rose a little. This was from Dec 2014-March 2015. Since March 2016 I've started cleaning up again on my own and it's so much better. Yea it takes some time, effort and research but it's a lot less money and so much more satisfying to see collections removed and things updating positively when you do it yourself. Plus it's just good to have more knowledge on your credit to make better decisions. Of course there are plenty of people who have success using credit repair companies but I'd like to think that you'll work harder at preventing the debt in the first place once you have to work to remove it.

Re: Credit Repair Companies??

Forum helped me get from 470's to 720+ in about 9 months. GW letters, paying down/ off balances. You could do it all yourself, it's not hard, you just can't give up.

Re: Credit Repair Companies??

Just do it yourself. I went from low 500's to high 600/718 within 6 months just from reading this forum.

Definitely just do it yourself. Everything they do, you can read this forum and learn enough to do it all on your own.

Re: Credit Repair Companies??

I used Lexington Law. They were very helpful but a bit costly. They removed 15 items off my credit and helped my score shoot up so I could purchase my new Beetle.

I also sent out some letters myself but I didnt get as quick of a response as Lexington did.

Hope this helps.

I have been using LL for almost exactly 2 months so far, with their highest tier 'service'. Their efforts have removed 11/13 baddies between all 3 reports so far.

You certainly can do everything they do (and more) for yourself, but I don't have the mental energy to figure it all out after 5:30am gym -> 9 hours at work -> 2-3 hours of night classes every week day.

Definitely worth it to me, but YMMV. All my baddies were either super old or super easy to clear up (relatively speaking) so your situation might be entirely different.

Re: Credit Repair Companies??

I'll add this, on one of my Facebook community pages I saw something rather disturbing. Someone posted a question asking about credit repair companies and suggestions for repairing her credit. Of course lots of folks jumped on giving advice, some good, some bad. I piped in talking about GWs and PFDs. A "credit repair specialist" who was offering their services chimed in and said it's not possible to have accounts removed. My eyes about popped out of my head! If you do go with a company, ask if they know what a pay for delete is first. lol

I agree with the others, do it yourself. Save the money you would pay them to pay down/off your debts instead, put it towards a secured a card. I think it helps you understand scoring and what all goes into your reports a little more as well.

Re: Credit Repair Companies??

If a credit repair company can get Portfolio Recovery off somebody's reports, then their fee is worth the price. Unless you have some other stubborn creditors on your account, you can do everything yourself with relative ease.
