For the first time ever recently, I sent off Goodwill letters to various creditors, asking for some removals.
Today I got the first response back - by phone call.
The gentleman from one of the creditors informed me that they "don't do goodwill adjustments" and "they have a responsibility to report the correct information."
He also has informed me that "if they made a mistake they would correct it" - but otherwise, they don't adjust, citing the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Has anyone else run into this situation before?
If so, is that the 'end all be all' of the situation?
Your input is appreciated.
Thank you,
Lovingdad.
He's correct. They must report accurately. I don't know of any company, though, that got in trouble for making someone look a bit better. (I'm sure there's a case out there somewhere.)
However, they can NOT report for a particular month as opposed to saying you were on time.
You might try asking for them to delete the late payments instead of replacing the payment information.

what are you trying to goodwill? I wouldnt stop i would continue with more letters. Find contact information online for owners/president of the company IE the big wigs and continue to send letters.
Explain what your trying to do and maybe we can be better help
I ran into the same situation with Dillard's. They are repeatedly refused to remove one late from six years ago. Saying to me that they don't offer goodwill either.
I wrote a letter to the CEO and got a call from someone else.
He mentioned on the phone that I wrote the letter to (name of CEO) at the beginning of the call.
Not sure what to do next since I wrote it to the CEO and instead got some other management type.
They are either playing gatekeeper or he's passing it off to them. Not sure which. Sort of annoying.
Basically in my letter, I was mentioning that there were some 30 day and 60 late remarks on my file. I was asking to have them removed.
There wasn't one, but several. I was politely asking if they would be able to remove them from my file.
Worth a shot.

Okay...my response was formatted all strange.
The FCRA mandates accurate reporting, but it does not mandate reporting. In other words, the info reported must be accurate, but they don't have to report ANY of it. That is what people usually counter with when Creditors use FCRA as an excuse.
GWs usually work with some persistence. I'd keep up with the letters. Good luck!
