Crossing my fingers on a PFD that I didn't get in writing!

So I committed a cardinal credit sin by doing a PFD that they refused to give me in writing. Here's why I did it:

  • The bill was only $165, I owe it and I was capable of paying it.
  • With an amount that small, and my ADHD, it just wasn't worth going through the HIPAA process.
  • The collection agency is small, southern and very friendly. I believed them when they told me they couldn't give me anything in writing prior to payment, but would delete it within 24 hours of my payment (I paid via CC over the phone).
  • I figure if they deceived me just to get payment, I will just GW them to death lol.
  • Other than my student loans and BK7, it's my last baddie and I really want it gone.
  • I spoke to 3 different people to confirm that they would delete it. The last person checked with a supervisor before telling me yes.
  • I read in a few different threads that medical collections are more likely to delete upon payment.

I asked the agent how long it would take before I received the letter confirming payment and deletion. She said that the payment will post in the morning, and that she already submitted it to her supervisor for automatic deletion, and I should have the letter within one week.

Until then, my fingers are crossed.

Re: Crossing my fingers on a PFD that I didn't get in writing!

I'm in the exact same boat. I just paid a CA that has 5 medical collections listed on my report based on a verbal promise to delete. Apparently they put the deletion letter in the mail today, so I should have it soon (they're local). I'll keep my fingers crossed for you if you keep yours crossed for me!

I've had success in similar situations. Not every CA is the devil, lol. Local CA's are easier to deal with. If they did deceive you, you could file a BBB complaint too. I've done that several times. Good luck!

Re: Crossing my fingers on a PFD that I didn't get in writing!

I did the same thing. I was given a verbal agreement to delete and the lady spoke with her supervisor prior to telling me they'd delete. Small local southern CA here as well. I was told what date they update monthly to the CR's and to call her back if I had any questions. Now I wait til the end of this month to see if it happens. I hope they told me the truth but we'll see. I figure worst case at least it's paid so I'll slide through on a manual review if they don't and I want a mortgage later.
