DOFD question

I have an account with JCpenney that according to Transunion is estimated to be removed 5/2015. The account was closed in January 2006, i settled with them for less than full balance (before i knew of PFD) in 5/2008. Shouldn't this account be removed already considering the DOFD had to have happened before January 2006?

Re: DOFD question

If they show a drop date of 5/2015 they are saying the DoFD is 5/2008.  The same time you paid.

Is there a payment history on the account?

Re: DOFD question

According to the payment history your DoFD should be 10/2006.

I would send a direct dispute to the OC.

Re: DOFD question

how's that different than going thru the dispute process with the CRAs? is it a simple e-mail to the address listed in the credit reports?

Re: DOFD question

No it is actually a letter and you decribing exactly what you dispute and why.  You get to include documentation to support your dispute, they have 30 days to respond to you with the results.

Making a payment does not reset the DoFD.   Don't dispute anything with the CRAs except as a last resort.

This is a Notice of Direct Dispute with you, under the provisions of FCRA §623(a)(8)(D), of the accuracy of information you have reported to my credit file.

“In compliance with FCRA §623(a)(8)(D), and enacting regulations published at  16 CFR § 660.4, this Notice of Direct dispute includes:

“Identification of the specific information being disputed:
(specify the account number, and the specific information that is disputed under

             that identifying account)

“Basis for the dispute:

(how the reporting was inaccurate;    was any reporting in violation of any statutory or

regulatory provisions?  account or express agreements?  CRA reporting gudelines? Account not

              yours? etc.)

“Supporting documentation:

(all documents that support your dispute; it is recommened to also include,

as part of your documentation, at least a copy of the portion only of your

recent credit report showing their reporting of the disputed information was

actually reported to your credit flle.  The implementing rule suggests a  showing

that it appeared in your credit report)

Re: DOFD question

Just a question regarding a situation like this and how I understood it.

I thought that if the account ever became current again then that changed the DoFD?  So, looking at this credit history the credit line became current for a few months late 2007/early 2008 then they reported lates again. Am I  wrong about this? Is the time actually calculated from the very first DoFD no matter if you brought it back to current for a month or two during that time?

I have an account similiar that is why I thought I had the thought process right??
