Can anyone provide some info/insight into the DV process? I've read in several places that it's a great first step but....I don't really know HOW to take the first step.
Help a girl out!!!

Read that. Now when you send a DV make it easy and simple.
I found this account on my credit report. I am requesting validation. Please include the name of the original creditor and the amount. Thank you.
The DV, if done timely, starts the cease collections process. By timely I mean done within 30 days of receiving a dunning notice or finding something on your CR without ever getting a dunning notice. A DV is for 3rd party collection agencies only.
You send a letter to the address on your CR or from the letter you received. Keep it simple and to the point. "You say I owe this debt account #______. Please validate per FDCPA 809".
Once they receive the DV they must stop collection activity until they validate the debt. That means no reporting, no calling, no sending letters. There is no time frame for them to respond and they do not have to. They just cannot try to collect or they are in violation of the FDCPA.
Validation of the debt from them only requires who is collecting and the amount owed. If you specifically ask for the OC and their address they must provide that also.
