Disputing negative credit - 1 bureau or all 3?

If you successfully dispute a negative entry on your credit with one of the agencies, do you have to do the same with the remaining two?  Or if it's removed by one agency, do they have the duty to report it to the other two?

Thanks!

Re: Disputing negative credit - 1 bureau or all 3?

If you file a dispute with one CRA, they are required to forward the dispute to the furnisher of the disputed information for their investigation.

The FCRA requires a furnisher, if they make an update of deletion based on their investigation, to report that finding to each CRA to which they have also reported the same information.  Thus, theoretically, the furnisher (not the CRA) is required to take that step.

In practice, furnishers often only report corrections or delettions back to the CRA handling the dispute.

If that occurs, you can call the furnisher and remind them of their obligation to also report to the other CRAs.
