Does $1 count?

Looking at my CR I see changes in a CO balance from $320 to $319 with no payment made.  Not sure if it's something that could be used as leverage to have accounts deleted.  Thoughts?

Re: Does $1 count?

I wouldn't see it as a way to get an item deleted.  I would however check the DOFD of the account to ensure they aren't using phantom payments to change the SOL.  Is it from the OC or a CA?

OC.  To check the DoFD do I need to call the CRA?

Re: Does $1 count?

Not sure about getting it deleted but, with new Fico scoring models, it should boost your score some.  Latest fico models (after 2008) ignore collection accounts for balances less than $100.

It's just that not all creditors use these newer fico models so it may not help you much there.

The statute does not compel accuracy or provide for deletion based only on an inaccuracy.  No statute can legislate against simply human inaccuracy.

Violation of the statute occurs only if information is reported that is knowingly inaccurate, or was reported with willful negligence of its accuracy.  FCRA 623(a)(1), 616, and 617.

In any dispute, the furnisher of the information always has the opportunity to simply correct an inaccuracy.  The system is not intended to remove information based on simple inaccuracy in its reporting.
